Datuk Ir Hamzah Hasan
Construction Industry Development Board

Datuk Ir. Hamzah bin Hasan, born in July 1951, was appointed Director on 16 November 2012. He is also a member of the Audit Committee and Nomination & Remuneration Committee.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Civil Engineering from Glasgow University, United Kingdom in 1975 and obtained his Master of Science (Construction Management) from Loughborough University, United Kingdom in 1987. He is a Professional Engineer of the Board of Engineers Malaysia, Fellow of Chartered Institute of Building, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Institute of Value Engineering Malaysia, ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations and Honorary Fellow of the Project Management Institution Malaysia.

He started his career as a Civil Engineer in the Public Works Department (“JKR”) in 1975. Since then he has served JKR for 23 years until 1998. In 1998, he joined Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad, a public listed company, as Group Managing Director until 2002. With his vast experience in both the public and private sectors, he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Construction Industry Development Board (“CIDB”), Malaysia in 2003 and then appointed as the Chairman of CIDB in 2011.

His directorship in other public companies include Construction Research Institute of Malaysia and School of Professional and Continuing Education, University of Technology Malaysia (UTMSpace).

Matriculation in 1961 (First Division; stood 8th from Shariakandi High School, Bogra), HSC in 1963 (First Division; stood 5th from Rajshahi Govt. College); B.Sc. in Physics in 1966 (First Class; stood First, R.U.); M.Sc. 1967 (First Class, stood First, R.U.), DIC (Imperial College), Ph.D. 1972 from London University.

Research Area :
Field of specialization: (i) Elementary particle physics (1967 - 1978), (ii) Condensed matter physics (current interest), Superconductivity, defects of solids, electronic structure of materials.

Merit scholarship for doctoral work at Imperial College of Science & Technology in 1967; President's (of former Pakistan) Gold medal and Prizes for Academic achievements (1968), Governor’s prize (1964), University and Habib Bank Gold Medals (1966, 1967), University Grants’ Commission Award (1997) for original research in Science & Agriculture, International ISESCO Science Award 2001 - in Recognition of Meritorious Achievements in the Field of Physics, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences Gold Medal 2006 for meritorious performance in the field of science and education.

Professional Experience:
Lecturer in Physics, Rajshahi University (January, 1968), Professor since 1984. Chairman, Department of Physics (1989 - 1992). Dean, Faculty of Science (1986 - 1988). Member of Senate, Syndicate, Academic Councils of Rajshahi and other Universities, Board of Governors, RCMP, Chittagong University. Vice-Chancellor, International Islamic University Chittagong (2002 Sep-2008 Jan).

Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Scientific Research ISSN 2070-0237 (Print); ISSN 2070-0245 (Online), Editorial Board, Journal of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, Former member of the Editorial Board, Rajshahi University Studies, Reviewer of several International Journals.

Already guided 80 research students - currently guiding several Ph.D., M. Phil. and M.Sc. research workers. Around 100 scientific publications mostly in international journals; Edited Proceedings of International workshop (catalogued by US Library of Congress, ICTP & other libraries of the world); 13 books (in Bengali), some of these in their 2nd & 3rd editions. Superconducting Noble Metal Diboride (Chapter 3 in: Superconductivity Research developments; Editor: James R Tobin, pp 63-92 © 2008 Nova Science Publications, Inc, New York). A book on contemporary socio-political events entitled “Bedevilled World” published by Global Media Publications (New Delhi) has also been published in two other languages (Bengali from Chittagong and Arabic from Beirut). Nearly 75 popular science articles and radio programs on science, religion etc

Visited 25 countries and attended 32 international conferences.

Post-doctoral fellow at Imperial College (London), J. J. Thomson Laboratory (Reading University, UK, on Royal Society Fellow- ship); Visiting scientist at: (i) IRC, University of Cambridge (U.K), (ii) JN Centre for Advanced Research, Bangalore (India), (iii) ICTP (Italy). Organized international workshops (participation from 15 countries) as Director (1996) and as Chairman (1998).

Datuk Wira (Dr.) Haji Ameer Ali

Datuk Wira (Dr.) Haji Ameer Ali was born on June 4, 1956 in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. He graduated from the Western Michigan University, USA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and a minor in Management in 1979.

He pursued a Master’s Degree in International Management at the Sonoma State University in California in 1980 and began his banking career with Arab-Malaysian Merchant Bank (now known as AmBank). He was appointed as a Bank Manager before leaving Arab-Malaysian Merchant Bank in 1988 to join his family business.

With the support of family members and staff, Datuk Wira (Dr.) Haji Ameer Ali has taken every new step in business in his stride. Today, MYDIN is a household name in Malaysia associated with „Halal‟ retail and wholesale business. With more than 200 outlets, MYDIN has grown into a different concept ranging from hypermarkets, bazaars, convenience shops, mini markets and emporiums.
